    Mr. Yoshida launched the non profit organisation; Transition Japan in 2008 with his fellow permaculture enthusiasts, after leaving his career as a medical instrument maker in an international company. In 2011, Mr Yoshida moved to Minami Aso, setting up a self-supporting permaculture lifestyle in an eco-house he helped build – conscious of the balance between sustainable forestry and local self-sufficiency. He has been working closely with the locals of Minami Aso as part of the transition movement, growing off-grid rice, vegetables and other foods while working on a range of community initiatives including a cinema club, natural energy, a seed savers club to protect heirloom seeds and setting up a regional currency “De-ra”.
